Meeting of the IDEA Working Group on the inclusion of animal testing alternatives into QRA for skin sensitisation

2016
26 Apr

Being largely based on animal data, it was agreed at the IDEA Annual Review 2015 that QRA now needs to transition to alternative methodologies.

There are a number of in chemico/in vitro tests in an advanced state that may be suitable for identifying fragrance materials that could give rise to induction of skin sensitisation. However, currently none of these methods appear to have the ability to provide the necessary information on potency for risk assessment purposes.

A working group met on April 26th in Brussels to collect knowledge on existing activities/projects on alternative methods for skin sensitization and discuss the short-, mid- and long term perspectives.
