Prof. Jim Bridges, chair of the IDEA Supervisory Group, presents an update of the IDEA project to the members of the Cosmetics Committee at the European Commission

Prof. Jim Bridges, chair of the IDEA Supervisory Group has provided an update on the achievements and the next steps of the IDEA project to the Cosmetics Working Group at the European Commission (DG Grow). This Committee met on September 21st, 2016 involving the European Commission, the Member States representatives and other stakeholders such as industry associations and NGOs.

Prof. Jim Bridges reminded the participants the objective and the scientific process of the IDEA project. He provided a short summary of the achievements of the first phase of the IDEA project (2013-2016) which were mainly focused on the revision of the Quantitative Risk Assessment methodology (QRA2). The next steps for the IDEA project are:

  1. Examination of the value of QRA2 in preventing sensitisation of consumers,
  2. Extension of exposure aspects to additional population groups, other consumer products  and pre- and pro- haptens,
  3. Collaboration with other organisations in developing suitable non-animal tests and other methodology for hazard characterisation.
